Overview

The aim of the course is to support the manager in launching new business initiatives following the Business Coaching method supported by the Lean Startup and Lean Enterprise methodologies, whether these are initiatives within the area of personal responsibility or initiative projects included in Intrapreneurship Company programs.

The course includes training sessions on key points of the methodology (Identify Customer Needs, Validate New Products, Reach Product / Market Fit) and a path of Business & Lean Startup Coaching utilizing tools such as the Javelin Board and the Javelin.com software.

The course will be presented by ICF certified experienced coaches which are part of the Lean Startup Machine and Lean Enterprise Machine network.

How it works

The course is structured in 4 steps:

  • Course Introduction e Goal Settings –Training on the methodology of Lean Startup and Lean Enterprise, Goal setting and Planning
    • The principles of Lean Startup and Lean Enterprise coaching and methodologies (Open Innovation)
    • Goal setting and Course overall plan
  • Identify Customer needs –In this first phase we focus on identifying specific problems our target customer might face
    • Phase training
    • Customer discovery interview
    • Analyze the results: recognize and understand patterns
  • Validate new products –During this phase, solutions to the problem are hypothesised and validated
    • Phase training
    • Design the solution
    • Validate the solution
  • Reach product / Market Fit –In this phase we verify if the hypothesized solution satisfies the needs successfully based on data analysis and, based on what we learn, plan the next steps

Adopted Methodology

Lean Startup Coaching will be managed on the basis of three prevailing methodologies:

  • Coaching according to the principles and ethics defined by ICF (International Coach Federation): The rich experience of coaches in teaching courses recognized by ICF and the distinct management of Executive Coaching guarantee top quality standards.
  • Lean StartUp: The certification and experience of the coaches as mentors of the “Lean Startup Machine” workshops guarantee a high standard of knowledge and experience in applying the methodology. Lean Startup is a radical approach for the launch of innovative ideas and activities – whether they are new ventures or new projects within large consolidated companies – that help to identify a path towards a sustainable business, by drastically reducing time and costs, and consequently, the possibility of failure. The methodology developed in 2008 by the young entrepreneur Eric Ries and spread by word of mouth throughout the world, proposes a continuous ideation-verification-modification process, aimed at adapting the product step by step to the needs of customers, while maintaining costs under control. Based on the theories of Eric Ries, Trevor Owens founded “Lean Startup Machine” (www.leanstartupmachine.com), a worldwide movement (Since 2010 more than 900 workshops in 5 continents and 500 cities – more than 30,000 individual participants.) aimed at teaching and experimenting this methodology with potential startuppers. Our coaches are certified mentors of the LSM workshops.
  • Lean Enterprise Methodology: The Lean Enterprise methodology was presented in the 2012 Best Seller “The Lean Enterprise” by Trevor Owens – former founder of “Lean Enterprise Machine”. This methodology defined the canons of modern open innovation by introducing the concepts of “Innovation Colony” and describing the process of innovation as a process that every company should equip itself on a par with competitors. We are unique holders of the exploitation rights of this methodology in Europe.

Expected Results

The course has two essential objectives:

  • Support the manager in validating a business idea following the methodologies of Business Coaching and Lean Startup which provide fast test cycles in order to minimize the likelihood of failure. Through the three phases “idea stage”, “Solution Testing” and “Product Stage” the manager comes to define a new business (or process improvement) validating the conditions in terms of Customer, Problem, Solution, Pricing, Channels, Repeatability , Positioning and User Experience.
  • Learn a new Business Development approach that is better suited to the new digital economy by acquiring a culture where “failure” is a natural part of the process. This learning involves a profound change of mindset compared to the one that has always been present in the management of standard company processes dominated by incremental and non-disruptive innovation.

Final Certifications

If agreed upon during the initial phase by the company and the manager, intermediate and final reports of the work carried out will be produced to analyse the results achieved. Obviously the maximum respect of privacy will be maintained with the coachee.

Verification Methodology

The learning verification is defined by ICF. The verification can only take place in a dynamic and continuous way by proposing to the coachee moments of elaboration and realization of the change. This occurs by resetting the process that finds its natural passage in the proactivity and in the capacity of self-verification and self – learning of the coachee. As regards to the Lean Startup and Lean Enterprise methodologies, the coach will verify at every step the relevance of the activities carried out through a continuous dialectical comparison able to stimulate new perspectives and retrospectives on what has been done and planned by the coachee.
